This female was spotted in low visibility water feeding at high tide. The Oceanic Manta Ray (Mobula birostris) has been uplisted from vulnerable to endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. They join many of the smaller devil ray species also listed as endangered due mainly to the imposing threat from targeted and bycatch fisheries. Although this is a sad development for this species, the fact that their conservation status has been acknowledged is cause for hope.
