Happy Birthday Clara Rockmore! 🎶 On this day in 1911, Rockmore was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. As a child, she established herself as a violin prodigy, however, was unable to continue playing the instrument as a teenager after developing tendinitis. Thankfully, following her move to the United States, Rockmore met Léon Theremin, who introduced her to his electronic instrument, the theremin. She would go on to become the most prominent theremin player and an international concertizing virtuosa.
