🪶 Indigenous Roots: Today in History… December 3, 1850 – This isn’t the Sand Creek Massacre in Colorado. This is the Sandy Lake Tragedy in what’s now Minnesota, sometimes called the Ojibwe Trail of Tears. That fall, the U.S. government ordered thousands of Ojibwe men to travel to Sandy Lake to pick up their annual treaty payments, then delayed the annuities for weeks while winter closed in. When the goods finally showed up, much of the food was spoiled or watered down, and people had already st
