Since Kanab is only a few miles from three national parks (Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon) and a whole bunch of state parks and national monuments (Lake Powell, Kodachrome Basin, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Pipe Springs, Cedar Breaks, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument) we knew we were just starting a truly memorable fall roadtrip.

May 16, 2012 · It would seem you only arrive to the Grand canyon the day you leave towards Mesa Verde. [?] If thats the case you wouldn't [or at least I wouldn't] want to have to leave the canyon too early and take on a long drive. Outside of the east entrance is the Cameron Trading post which are the closest lodgings outside of the park.

Jan 21, 2014 · The entire drive from Mesa Verde to the Grand Canyon will be through the Navajo Nation. Tourist facilities will be few and far between. Your best bet from both a timing and availability standpoint is probably Kayenta at the junction of US-160 and US-163.

Mar 20, 2009 · The most efficient route from Seattle to the Grand Canyon also happens to be quite scenic, but will take at least 2½ days to drive, so plan on 3 if you want to stop at a few places en route. The drive is I-90/I-82/I-84 southeast to Salt Lake City, then I-15 south to just south of Beaver, UT.

Aug 28, 2014 · Something similar holds true at the Grand Canyon. While it is true that some people hike down into the Canyon and back in a single day, that is exhausting to say the least. Better is to plan on an overnight at the bottom. Reservations are required to stay at the Phantom ranch. There is also a nearby campground that requires a backcountry permit.

We have no problems getting around physically, so some activities along the way would be great. Looking for suggestions for places to visit & decent places for over night stays. Time is not a problem.

Nov 14, 2012 · If you are ending your trip back in Grand junction you could consider visiting Arches on the way back and take UT24 through Hanksville to Torrey [passing Capitol Reef NP] and then take scenic byway 12 to Bryce canyon. From Bryce head through Kanab to Page/Lake Powell and on to the south rim of the Grand canyon.

In 1980, I had the marvelous opportunity to spend 32 days inside the Grand Canyon, and as a result, I have since fancied myself to be a knowledgeable visitor to this amazing national park. But a brand new 3rd edition to a popular guidebook by James Kaiser has opened my eyes to parts of the canyon that I was unaware of.
