The five students are not required to leave campus or the country, the University of Iowa's graduate student union said in a release. Revoked student visas can be reinstated after a review process while the UI's Office of International Student and Scholar Services can advocate for the reinstatement of those visas.

Several universities across the country have confirmed to UPI that international students have had their visas revoked without notice or had their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System records terminated.

While not all the affected schools said immigration status changes were tied to activism, they come as the Trump administration cracks down on students who protested Israel’s war in Gaza.
