The son of UPMC Memorial nurse Jessica Breighner created a GoFundMe page to assist his mother following the incident.

The health care company says staffers affected by the hostage situation/shooting are getting help with paperwork and have full pay during recovery.

A nurse wrote that she was held against the attacker as a shield at gunpoint, arms zip-tied behind her back, as they walked through a doorway and encountered responding police officers.

"He pulled the trigger three times on my mother's head. Luckily, he was out of bullets, or my mother wouldn't be here right now," Jayden Huff says.
