Mayor Aftab Pureval dominated the three-person mayoral primary May 6. Pureval, a Democrat, won with 83% of the vote. Republican Cory Bowman, despite a last-minute endorsement from his half-brother, Vice President JD Vance, came in a distant second with 13% of the vote.

Mayor Aftab Pureval, a rising star in the Democratic Party, is set to face political newcomer Cory Bowman in the upcoming general election on November 4.

Bowman is running his first ever campaign, and is the first Republican (along with Frank) to run in a mayoral election in 16 years. He's a College Hill resident and the pastor of a church in the West End, as well as the co-owner of a coffee shop in that area.
