A teacher, a middle-aged dad, a software engineer and a retiree are among the 30 candidates running for City Council in Southeast Portland’s District 3. The six with the most momentum - as measured by money raised and endorsements secured - gave the same primary campaign promise: I will be collaborative and pragmatic and insist the city do its job.

The candidates vying to represent Bakersfield’s Ward 2 in the city council will take the debate stage Tuesday night. Vice Mayor Andrae Gonzales and businessman Michael Cardenas will debate the issues affecting Bakersfield residents including homelessness and crime.

Some Council members called a special meeting for Wednesday, but they lack authority to force the mayor or anyone else to show up.
