Unfortunately for the Yankees, Volpe exited Friday's contest in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch in his previous at-bat. The hit-by-pitch came on an 88.8 MPH pitch from Red Sox starter Walker Buehler in the second inning. While Volpe initially stayed in the game, he was lifted two innings later.

Anthony Volpe homered in a five-run first inning, then came out after he was hit by a pitch on the left elbow as the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 9-6 in the AL rivals’ first meeting this year.

Fried inked an eight-year, $218 million contract with New York, blowing away industry expectations. Boston came in at seven years and $190 million.
