The sell side has subdued expectations for BofA's Q3 earnings. In terms of relative sector performance, Citigroup has been a big laggard, though it has started to turn operationally.

Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup will be the next big banks to report results on Tuesday. They follow JPMorgan and Wells Fargo, whose earnings last week were well received by Wall Street.
