Oregonians can renew their vehicle registration and get tags at new kiosks at Fred Meyer stores around the state including in Salem and Eugene.

Portland police believe a shopper found dead Monday in a Fred Meyer parking lot in Northeast Portland was shot and killed while trying to stop a purse snatching. The initial investigation suggests Jonathan Trent, 47, witnessed the robbery and intervened, police said Thursday. A suspect or suspects shot him before fleeing, they said.

The kiosks will let Oregon drivers renew their vehicle registration and get new plate stickers right away without a trip to the DMV.

The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has introduced express kiosks in nine Fred Meyer stores across the state.

Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services said Thursday it has launched self-service express kiosks in Fred Meyer stores in nine cities, including Bend giving customers one more way to renew vehicle registration beyond a DMV field office,

Medford is one of nine cities statewide where Fred Meyer stores are now hosting the Oregon DMV’s express kiosks. The self-service kiosks will allow customers a convenient way to renew their vehicle registrations and walk away with printed vehicle registration and license plate stickers within two to five minutes.

New self-serve express kiosks have been installed at nine Fred Meyer store locations that include Eugene, according to state transportation officials.
