Gov. Ron DeSantis’ announcement that he’s appointing Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio places the 49-year-old Plant City native in an exotic locale far from home.

The Florida attorney general will serve as U.S. senator until the next general election in 2026 when the seat returns to the ballot.

Ashley Moody, the state's attorney general ... the second woman to be Florida Attorney General when she succeeded Pam Bondi, also will be the second woman to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate.

“My overriding objective will be to return the Department of Justice to its core mission of keeping Americans safe and vigorously prosecuting criminals,” Bondi said. “That includes getting back to basics: gang, drugs cartels, our border and our foreign adversary.”
