Rwanda’s health minister said Sunday that an outbreak of the Marburg virus is not spreading in the country, citing the absence of new infections or deaths in the past six days.

Initial findings of genomic analysis indicates that the Marburg virus, which caused an outbreak in Rwanda, has "a single zoonotic origin," meaning it jumped from an animal to a human only once and had not passed through multiple hosts,

A deadly, Ebola-like virus called Marburg is currently causing an outbreak in Rwanda. The country declared an outbreak of Marburg virus disease on Sept. 27 and has reported 58 confirmed cases and 13 deaths as of Oct. 8. Many of those who have been infected are health-care workers.
