Canadian wildfire smoke has affected Wisconsin all week, prompting multiple air quality alert extensions from the DNR.

A young black bear spotted across northern Wisconsin with a plastic jar stuck on its head was safely rescued over the weekend, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The 2-year-old female bear had been seen over the past week in Sawyer,

CABLE, Wis — A young bear is seeing the world more clearly now after wandering for at least a week with its head stuck in a plastic jar. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help free the two-year-old sow that was spotted moving across Bayfield, Douglas and Sawyer Counties.

The bear had been reported with a jar on its head on July 26 and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services department followed reports and attempted to trap the bear for a week before successfully capturing the bear after using an immobilization drug on Sunday and then cutting the jar off the bear’s head.
