Seattle’s interim police chief said Monday that she has fired a police officer who in 2023 struck and killed a graduate student from India while responding to an overdose call.

Interim Chief of Police Sue Rahr announced she'd fired SPD Officer Kevin Dave in an internal email Monday. The decision comes as the result of a January 2023 incident in which Dave struck and killed 23-year-old college student Jaahnavi Kandula while she was crossing a crosswalk.
