(Reuters) -Romania's defeated hard-right presidential contender George Simion said late on Tuesday that he would challenge the ballot's result, alleging interference by France and Moldova, after a centrist victory was met with relief by many European leaders.

George Simion, a 38-year-old hard-right nationalist candidate had conceded defeat after losing to Nicusor Dan, the mayor of Bucharest, alleging foreign interference.

European Union presidential candidate Nicușor Dan won the country’s presidential election Sunday, defeating his ultranationalist rival. With 100% of the votes counted, the centrist candidate won nearly 54% of the ballots cast,
