The Detroit Tigers showed interest in right-handed reliever Kyle Finnegan during free agency, but he signed with the Washington Nationals instead.

It’s hard to tell the story of the Washington Nationals over the past five years without Kyle Finnegan. On Thursday, however, the Nationals determined that the 33-year-old closer won’t be a part of their next chapter. They sent him to the Detroit Tigers for right-handed pitching prospects Josh Randall and R.J. Sales.

Finnegan, 33, was acquired from the Washington Nationals for a pair of High-A pitching prospects – 2024 draft picks Josh Randall (ranked No. 15 in the Tigers' system, per MLB Pipeline) and R.J. Sales.
