The winner of Fat Bear Week has finally been crowned - and she's no stranger to the title. Voters chose 128 Grazer, a mother bear who won Fat Bear Week last year, and whose cub was recently killed by her last remaining opponent in the competition,

Grazer's cub died after it slipped over a waterfall and was killed by Chunk, perhaps the most dominant brown bear on the river.

In an exciting and personal rematch from last year, 128 Grazer and 32 Chunk faced off again in the final round of 2024’s Fat Bear Week contest.

128 “Grazer” made Fat Bear Week history Tuesday night by becoming the first competitor to win the tournament while caring for a cub. Her victory over 32 “Chunk” also felt deeply personal for legions of her online fans; earlier this summer, Grazer’s enormous rival attacked the second of her offspring, who later died of the injuries.

Grazer beat Chunk by more than 40,000 votes cast by fans watching live cameras at explore.org of Alaska’s Katmai National Park and Preserve.

This is Grazer’s second straight win over Chunk in the contest in which fans cast votes for the bear they believe best exemplifies winter preparedness by the fat they have accumulated over the summer.
