Cast members Kenan Thompson, Marcello Hernandez and Bowen Yang appeared in the cold open for a heartfelt tribute to their moms ahead of Mother’s Day, but the moment was cut short when James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump showed up and sent them all packing.

Cecily Strong made a surprise return to “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend as she appeared alongside Colin Jost in a sketch poking fun at Trump administration officials Jeanine Pirro and Pete Hegseth.

A recurring gag for Strong’s impersonation of Pirro would be to spit wine in the face of Colin Jost during the “Weekend Update” segment. A first it seemed like the joke wouldn’t be revisited but Jost also made a cameo in the cold open, where he played defence secretary Pete Hegseth, who Strong’s Pirro said was her “old drinking buddy”.
