Today is used to leading the pack when it comes to morning shows, but according to a new report, NBC execs are starting to panic as Good Morning America is closing the gap. According to Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack on Monday,

Hall was cut from Today in favor of Megyn Kelly, who replaced her 9 a.m. slot on the NBC morning show. At the time the TV personality and NBC released a joint statement, saying “We are disappointed that she has chosen to leave but we wish her all of the best,” with Hall adding that she was “excited about the next chapter.”

NBC’s “Today” remains the top-rated morning program, according to the latest numbers. But ABC’s “Good Morning America” is surging in a bid to become the most-watched a.m. news and entertainment program.
