In January, Google released a battery update for the Pixel 4a. This firmware installs automatically, and since the company removed the previous versions, there was no way to revert back.

Google’s fix for the Pixel 4a also resulted in an update that throttled the phone’s battery life. In both cases, a free battery replacement, or money towards a new phone, was offered.
Unfortunately for Google, there seems to be a pattern to battery issues on the Pixel A-series. The company did not share the technical details on the Pixel 4a’s infamous battery update.
