Throughout the first three games of Las Vegas Summer League, Charles Bassey quickly endeared himself to Boston Celtics fans around the world. Currently, the Celtics frontcourt looks thin heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, and after some dominant showings, there was hope that Bassey could provide some depth and competition at the center position.

Gonzalez was one of three Celtics rookies on the Summer League roster, joining Amari Williams and Max Shulga. Interestingly, all three of them grew up overseas before coming stateside to pursue their basketball careers. It’s a unique international flavor for the Celtics that perhaps has some added side benefits while on the court.

The Summer League Atlanta Hawks went up against the Boston Celtics in their final matchup in Las Vegas, as they started off 4-0. Despite the undefeated record, the point differential was not good enough for them to make it into the final four.

Jordan Walsh locked in, Hugo Gonzalez started hot, Baylor Scheierman’s shooting woes continued and two bigs made headlines in the Celtics’ Summer League win over the Lakers.

The Boston Celtics have already made two major trades this offseason and are reportedly looking to continue making wide-sweeping moves. The Celtics have cut nearly $25 million off their books by trading Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta and Jrue Holiday to Portland.

The Celtics (4-1) had 24 assists on their 37 field goals, with Isaiah Wong leading the way with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and six assists. The 24-year-old got into 20 games last season with the Hornets and averaged 6.0 points in 13 minutes.

The Celtics stayed in control for the entire second half, pushing their lead up to double digits for the entire fourth quarter on their way to the comfortable win. The victory improves Boston to 3-1 in Las Vegas with one game looming in the consolation round this weekend.
