The Paramount Plus Essential and Premium plans each went up $1. The ad-supported Essential version increased to $9, and the ad-free Premium version rose to $14. The option to prepay for a year of streaming now costs $90 for Essential and $140 for Premium, up from $60 per year for Essential and $120 per year for Premium.
A Democratic congressman is calling on Paramount to submit any acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery to a foreign ownership review, even if the David Ellison-led company does not believe that it is technically required.
Still, price remains a top concern for WBD, which has also suggested that it could get more for its cable channels if they were sold separately from its movie studios and HBO Max. A Paramount deal would force WBD to stop working on the spinoff, which could be problematic if the merger fell apart.
Paramount aims to install friendly directors at the next Warner shareholder meeting as it sues WBD for more information on why it chose Netflix.
