Double major winner Xander Schauffele called himself "an idiot" after carding a quadruple-bogey eight on an opening day to forget at the PGA Tour's Zozo Championship in Japan on Thursday.

American Taylor Moore grabbed a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Zozo Championship as defending champion Collin Morikawa and world number two Xander Schauffele made rough starts at the Narashino Country Club in Japan on Thursday.

Justin Thomas, who golf fans last saw at the Tour Championship, will return to Japan for the first time since 2019. Tiger Woods won the ZOZO that year, clinching his 82nd PGA Tour title, which tied Sam Snead for the most all-time. Woods, of course, is not playing this week.
