YouTube Shorts are about to get quite a bit longer. Starting on October 15, the platform is increasing video limits from one minute to three minutes. TikTok, arguably Shorts' biggest competitor, has allowed users to share 10-minute videos for over two years.

YouTube Shorts will triple the maximum length of videos, boosting it from 60 seconds to 3 minutes starting Oct. 15.

According to a press release, longer Shorts were "a top requested feature by creators," likely because it will make it easier to cross-post content across TikTok and Shorts. TikTok launched three-minute videos in 2021 and now has a 10-minute limit, while its other competitor Instagram Reels currently has a 90-second limit.

YouTube has now extended Shorts videos from one minute to three minutes, offering creators more flexibility while uploading videos. It also helps in connecting with their audiences in deeper ways.

In a blog announcement posted on 3 October, YouTube revealed that from 15 October onwards, creators will be able to upload Shorts that are up to three minutes long — triple the previous 60-second limit.
