A rescue attempt has ended for Germany's two-time Olympic gold medalist Laura Dahlmeier following a rockfall on Monday while she was climbing Laila Peak in Pakistan.

Laura Dahlmeier, a retired Olympic biathlete from Germany, is presumed dead as a rescue operation to find her was called off after she had a high-elevation mountaineering accident in Pakistan on Monday.

Laura Dahlmeier's management announced her death after her fall in the mountains of Pakistan. German President Steinmeier called the former biathlete an "ambassador of our country to the world," as NTV reports.
