Oakland community members and leaders gathered in the wake of a pair of shootings at two city schools to condemn the deadly violence.

On Saturday, at community events in West Oakland, residents spoke out about how the violence was impacting a city that, at times, has become desensitized to tragedy.

Thursday's incident came a day after a student was shot at Oakland's Skyline High School. The student is in stable condition. Police say they arrested two juveniles and recovered two firearms. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said she was “heartbroken” by “the second shooting on an Oakland campus in one week.”

Attempted murder charges have been filed against two boys, ages 15 and 16, in the shooting of a classmate on Wednesday.
