Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the social media platform TikTok, according to a news release shared Thursday.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing to stop the city of Austin from covering travel expenses for residents who seek abortions out of state. In a lawsuit filed Friday, Paxton argued that the Texas Constitution prohibits gifts without a public benefit.

In the 2024-2025 budget, Austin allocated $400,000 to help residents with travel expenses, like airfare, gas, hotels, child care, and food, when traveling out-of-state for an abortion after Texas banned almost all abortions in the summer of 2022.

The attorney general is requesting that the Texas secretary of state cross reference individuals who are registered to vote but don't have a state ID or driver's license.

TikTok has previously disputed similar claims, saying it addressed those concerns with new features and removes users who appear to be underage.
