The Centennial Trail is paved and runs along the Spokane River from Riverside State Park west of Spokane all the way past Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It is used by 2 million people per year.
The opening of the new north trailhead of the Centennial Trail is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Snohomish County Parks Nakashima Heritage Barn, 32328 Highway 9, north of Arlington.

The trail is considered the county’s largest park and officially opened in 1989, the state’s centennial year. It follows an abandoned railroad grade that was laid in the late 1800s.
Most of the Centennial Trail now meets those requirements, with a half-dozen short exceptions. One of those is the gap in West Central. It’s a crucial missing link in the Centennial Trail.
