Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour review
Digest more
The Switch 2 is Nintendo's safest console generation leap possibly ever, but is it worth the rising price? I tested it for a week to find out.
The first Switch was such a hit that Nintendo decided not to mess with a good thing. Instead of releasing a successor that feels like a generational leap or a pivot in a new direction, it’s following up the hugely successful original with the Switch 2 — a welcome upgrade that largely sticks to the formula.
It’s a big day for Nintendo fans. The gaming giant’s new console, the $450 Switch 2, arrives on store shelves globally after being announced in April — marking Nintendo’s first major console launch since the original Switch arrived roughly eight years ago.
In the announcement, the retailer said: “Argos is pleased to announce a limited restock of the Nintendo Switch 2 this Friday. From 8am on 13th June, customers can shop the newest evolution of the console online and in store and with Argos's same day click and collect service, they can have it up and running before the weekend.”
After spending a couple of weeks with the Nintendo Switch 2, I'm (mostly) optimistic about the future of the console.
You forget how much of a hit, how much of a turnaround, the Nintendo Switch turned out to be. After the major wobble (and baffling form factor) of the Wii U, Nintendo came back with a hybrid console that would replace and fuse its handheld and home console lineages.
