The Celtics are pretty restricted in how they can acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo because they’re above the second luxury tax apron. NBA rules prohibit them from aggregating salaries in a trade for a player with a larger salary. They also prevent the Celtics from taking in more salary than the salary that they’re giving out in any trade.

If the rumblings from the trade rumor mill are to believed, the 2025 NBA offseason will be unforgettable. Multiple All-Stars are seemingly up for grabs. For that matter, so, apparently, is an entire team that is only one season removed from winning 49 games and making the playoffs.

The Celtics have been floated around as a dark-horse candidate for Antetokounmpo, among a number of teams. Enter a new trade candidate: the Raptors. Per the Toronto Star’s Doug Smith, there is “mutual interest” between Antetokounmpo and the Raptors as a landing spot for the two-time MVP.
